Kiva Hot Yoga, formally known as Bikram Yoga Birmingham, first opened its doors in April of 2011. The name change followed in January 2014, and is a place where people in the community come together to better themselves and support each other. Classes offered at Kiva Hot Yoga include Hot 60, 75, or 90, Glowga, Hot Hybrid, Karma Class, Vinyasa Flow, Power Flow, Buti Yoga, Yoga Fundamentals, Yin Yoga, and Hot Pilates. Hot Yoga is aimed to loosen muscles and joints to maximize stretching and strengthening capacity while also preventing injuries. While the body reacts to heat by relaxing itself, the mind adjusts by eliciting a heightened state of focus. The Karma Classes are free to the community and ask only for donations. All proceeds are sent to local non-profit organizations. Kiva Hot Yoga encourages all to try yoga and experience the many health benefits, which include weight loss, reduced stress and anxiety, increased energy throughout the day, increased stamina and strength, reduced back pain, regulated blood cholesterol, eliminating toxins from deep tissues, strengthened immune system, balanced endocrine system, increased lung capacity, strengthened heart and bones, improved posture and spine alignment, and increased mental well-being and clarity.
