Founded in Fresno, California in 1984 as the Fresno Unified School District's second magnet high school program, the Roosevelt School of the Arts is an in-depth, specialized locale for training in the visual, performance, and media arts. The school's dance department instructs students in ballet, tap, and jazz styles as well as Folkloric, Hmong, and hip-hop cultural dance. The school is also renowned for its drama, music, visual arts, and vocal programs. Roosevelt School of the Arts has won numerous awards, including the 1996 California Distinguished School Award, the Creative Ticket National School of Distinction Award from the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education, and two Golden Bell Awards. Enrollment at the school is nearly 500 students and is praised by alumni for its dedication to a passionate study of the arts.
